EXERCISES
Think about what you’re trying to communicate in your work. Do your ideas engage with a broader category of research, like science, philosophy, or politics? Take some time to jot down the larger conversations related to your art.
Choose one category from the list you made in Exercise 1 and spend a few moments fleshing out the specific conversation you want your art to engage. Write down everything you know about the topic, and record any questions you have, including areas of the conversation you don’t know much about. Use your library to help you answer some of these questions. Search library databases for articles, the library catalog for books, or ask your librarian for help.
Consider how your perspective has changed or deepened in response to your research. Sketch or write out ideas for a new piece that responds to the answers you were able to find to your questions at the library.
